A Message from our Chairman
I just wanted to give our members and local community an update of the cricket club’s activities since the country was placed into full lockdown on Monday 23rd March.
First of all the cricket club is pleased to announce that it has received the following support from a number of different sources in the most recent week:
The cricket club has received support from
Oldham Council via the Small Business Grant Fund.
From Sport England through their Community Emergency Fund
The England and Wales Cricket Board are supporting our fundraising efforts through their Spacehive initiative. To that end they are contributing a further £100 to this fund as well as providing much needed support to the cricket club. The link for that if any of our friends or their families wish to support this is listed below.
We have managed to ensure that our employee’s jobs are safeguarded in the future using the government’s Job Retention Scheme.
Secondly, because of the above we have been able to continue with our work in improving the facilities within the club. Our groundsman is continuing to work hard to maintain and improve the facilities for all our members but particularly the condition of the cricket playing area and the bowling green.
In addition to this, we have completed the refurbishment on the changing rooms. Again, this has been completed with the support of Sport England who provided much of the financial support for this project. The club would like to offer its thanks to James Cummins who worked tirelessly throughout and showed great commitment to get the job done during difficult times. We are sure you will agree he did a fantastic job.
In terms of returning to the field of play, at the moment all cricket has been suspended until at least the 1st July. We are awaiting further updates from the ECB on this in terms of recreational cricket. We are also due to have a conference call with the management board of the GMCL in the coming days.
Finally, as many of you may be aware, we have been running a weekly quiz for several years. Fortunately, through the use of technology we have ensured that this has continued. If you would like to participate in this fun quiz on a Thursday night please either contact Michael Wilson using the contact page or e-mail Wernethquiz@outlook.co.uk.
A final bit of good news is that Roy Last, who lots of you will know, was the winner of the centurion club for the month of April. Congratulations to Roy who has won £50. To be within a chance of winning like Roy, please contact the club using this page.
Finally and most importantly, we would like to thank all of our members and friends of the club for their invaluable support during this difficult time. It is appreciated and we hope we can return your kindness in the near future.
On behalf the cricket club I hope everyone stays safe and healthy - I look forward to seeing everyone as soon as possible.
